Paonia and Beyond

The Local Nomad is located right in the heart of downtown Paonia—a vibrant little town with a big spirit.
Paonia may have fewer than 2,000 residents, but it’s buzzing with live music, art openings, weekly happenings, and seasonal festivals. Nestled in the North Fork Valley along the West Elk Loop Scenic Byway, it’s the perfect base for exploring Colorado’s Western Slope—home to organic farms, vineyards, galleries, parks, trails, and small-town charm. We’re located on the Colorado Creative Corridor and within the West Elks wine region.
Just a short walk brings you to boutique shops, art galleries, great local dining, a nonprofit theater, yoga and fitness studios, and wellness offerings.
Within a 10-minute drive, you’ll find award-winning wineries, orchards, farm stands, and mountain biking trails.
And if you’re up for a bigger adventure, Grand Mesa, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, and mountain towns like Aspen, Carbondale, and Crested Butte are all within two hours—along with easy connections to Moab, Telluride, and Durango.
Our Guest’s Reviews
This is a delightful place right in downtown Paonia. Thomas and Michelle made us feel welcome at the house. Check-in was simple and easy. The common areas were a tremendous bonus. The stocked kitchen made cooking a delight. The benefit of a market across the street offered up many appetizing options. The room was exactly as described. It was clean, comfortable, and served our needs admirably. Book with confidence.

It’s a super cozy and clean hostel. I couldn’t expect more. It’s in the center of the town with a grocery supermarket next to it. Very convenient. This is a perfect place to stay if you’d like to explore the black canyon or the million dollars road.

Great place to stay for a Solar Energy International student…short walking distance to the grocery store, restaurants, and the SEI classroom. It is a 5 min drive to the SEI field campus. I will be back!

This place is amazing! Cute, quaint, and cozy, it’s right in the Main Street of Paonia. House has so many unique and nice touches. My favorite was a sun room with plants and giant bean bag perfect for napping or reading a book. Nice smells, clean spaces, and lots of room. We stayed in the Lavender room and the bed was super comfortable. Everything is in walking distance too. Grocery store across the street and you can easily walk to the Paonia River Walk.
